Creative Pattern Cutter - Hemp Tailor
2019
As a creative pattern cutter for Hemp Tailor, I was responsible for developing patterns that were both stylish and sustainable. Working from sketches and vintage garments, I collaborated with stylists to design patterns that were tailored to the brand’s specific aesthetic and heritage while bringing a new take.
One of the key aspects of my role was developing toiles to be altered during fittings. This required a high level of skill and creativity, as I had to balance the technical aspects of pattern cutting with the artistic elements of garment design. It was a highly collaborative process that allowed me to work closely with the design team to ensure that the final product met their expectations.
Designing with hemp cotton in mind was also an important part of my role, as it was the brand’s core material. This required me to be familiar with the unique properties of hemp cotton and to use this knowledge to develop patterns that highlighted its natural beauty and durability. It was a highly rewarding process that allowed me to showcase my creativity and contribute to the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
Unfortunately, although the design team at Hemp Tailor were happy with the capsule collection we created for them, the people higher up were not. So after everything was signed off the pieces didn’t go into full production and the pictures I have are from the final fitting we had and are styled with zebra slippers (a pleasantly surprising combination)? Despite this, I found this job to be a highly rewarding project and am grateful to have worked with a very talented group of people.
