Design/ Patterning/ Seamstressing - Costume Collaboration
2017 - 2020
Rosa Nussbaum
As costume designer for performance artist Rosa Nussbaum, I was able to test my creative vision and expertise to produce an ensemble that embodies her artistic expression. I designed, patterned, and constructed an ensemble that brought together textile manipulation and intricate patterning.
The centerpiece of the ensemble was a bomber jacket. Every stitch and detail was thoughtfully considered and executed, resulting in a garment that is both visually striking and conceptually rich. The jacket folds out to become a long jacket with a stuffed and reinforced hood that created a bigger silhouette. Pockets and ties are collaged throughout so the garment is always in flux. The intricate patterns incorporated into the jacket, combined with heavily distressed and bleach jeans create a captivating juxtaposition of ruggedness and clean straight lines. The careful placement of distressed elements, coupled with the delicate bleaching techniques also adds depth and character to the jeans, further enhancing the artistic narrative.
Mole Joy
As a costume designer and collaborator for the band Mole Joy, I played a critical role in creating a visually striking and engaging performance experience for their audiences. Through close collaboration with the band members, I helped to conceptualize and design costumes that not only captured the essence of their music and persona but also reflected the style and energy of their live performances.
Working closely with the band, I sourced materials, created prototypes, and refined designs to ensure that the costumes not only looked amazing on stage but were also practical and comfortable for the performers to wear.
Through my work with Mole Joy, I gained invaluable experience in creative collaboration, project management, and technical design. I honed my skills in textile sourcing, sewing, pattern-making, and costume construction, and learned to work under tight deadlines and in high-pressure environments.
